Study: Effects of Bright Light Therapy on Fatigue and Cognitive Function in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Crossover Study (PMID: 40120538)

In this trial, 36 people with chronic fatigue were given full-spectrum bright light boxes (10,000 lux) to use at home—the same intensity and wavelength range as natural sunlight.

After just two weeks, participants reported:

  • Significant improvements in fatigue scores

  • Better cognitive function, as measured by the Test of Attentional Performance

  • Usual care

Both exercise groups improved, with the face-to-face group walking 52 meters farther in standardized walking tests, and the online group 34 meters farther.

Even more encouraging, both groups showed improved immune function, with measurable increases in naïve and memory CD8+ T-cells.
